5 Things You Can Do Right Now To Hike Your Productivit

by Mary Wilhite on December 19, 2011

Some people strangely manage to do more in an ordinary day than others. One can write an article like this in just 15 minutes while others take an hour. Anthony Trollope, wrote 47 novels while working full-time at the British Post Office. What’s the trick? How do some people manage to achieve so much in such a short time? Well, it is all about productivity. Here are five things you can put in place to boost your efficiency.
1. Make a dent in every task you put your hands on.
On average it takes about 30 minutes to put a dent on a task. So the least amount of time you can put on a task or batch is half an hour. It is advisable schedule your tasks in half hour blocks. Apparently, for most people this is the most amount of time they can take in total concentration. Beyond this their mind starts to wander.
2. Batch similar tasks.
Your productivity will soars when you batch similar tasks together and handle them at once. This means that you need to make phone calls together, update your social media posts together or do house chores in one a single session.
3. Become an early riser.
You stand to have a better day when you start early. Start at 4, 5 or 6 am. You get more done than the average person who starts their day at 8 am.
By the way, starting early can be a good habit. You just need to wake up at 5am for three to five days and a habit starts forming. The morning time is usually quiet and if you stay with family members it means most would still be asleep and it gives you uninterrupted sessions.
4. Switch off all your gadgets
When you have important and urgent tasks to accomplish, then you need to go to a library, coffee-house or in your backyards to work while all gizmos are off.
It is the best way to avoid distractions. And you may not have thought about it this way, but nearly all people who contact you want their problems solved and not yours. That’s why you need to be selfish with your time. Hide somewhere and work nonstop before putting on your gadgets.
5. Keep the momentum.
A body in motion tends to remain in motion. And this means that if you start to do the same things in the same way at the same speed unless you take conscious action, you will form a habit. To improve your productivity you need to deliberately increase your pace. Type, move, read, walk faster than usual.
When you consciously increase the speed at which you do things, you will find this spills over to the other areas of your life. You will dial numbers, drive, cook, clean faster and your productivity will soar.
